Investing in images that take healthcare professionals outside of the box breaks the ice, creates connection and fills appointments.

Introducing a new Specialist in Sports Dietetics service line for the athlete in everyone.
Meet Lauren Mitchell, MS, RDN, CSSD
How to Photograph an Ultra-Athlete, Super Powered People Person
I was at the home of my friends for lunch shortly after 6-time Boston Marathon qualifier Lauren was awarded a Certification in Sports Specialist Dietetics. As I looked out at their unobstructed view of one of Colorado’s 14ers and thought, “wouldn't it be awsome to get a shot of Lauren leaping over, Pyramid Peak ?”
To get this image I partnered with photographer Daniel Bayer, a hired gun with the soul of an artist. Getting this angle required digging him a trench in the deep snow, but that was not all. Next I constructed an ad hoc runway for Lauren to get some speed and traction to jump on her mark. Finally, Dan had me wade waist deep through the snow with a reflector to get the beautiful glow on Lauren’s face.
Why did you put the doctor in the water?
Meet Caroline Mears Norris, DO
Meeting Dr. Mears Norris was such a pleasure. She was fresh off of her residency and living her dream of practicing medicine in the Roaring Fork Valley at Aspen Valley Primary Care. Dr. Mears Norris mentioned that she had been listening to podcasts and reading studies on deliberate cold-exposure therapy, and that was that. A picture that would capture something essential about how she approaches medicine. The image was a perfect match for the article headline, Going All In, to introduce Dr. Caroline to the Aspen valley community in a meaningful way.
Photographer Hall Willams brought his expert lighting skills to this “golden hour” shoot to create this memorable image, without getting his feet wet.
The face our community looked to during the pandemic.
Catherine Bernard, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Aspen Valley Hospital.
For this Health Matters cover image, I was inspired by the aesthetics of the Dutch Old Masters.
In particular, I wanted the visual drama of Rembrandt’s The Night Watch for lighting direction and the feeling of Reubens’ portrait of his daughter, Clara Serena for the subject.
Photographer Daniel Bayer embraced the creative notes and lit the ER trauma room at Aspen Valley Hospital to perfection, all the way down to getting the IV saline bag to glow. I sent the portrait to Dr. Bernard and explained what I liked about the expression Reubens captured on his daughter: intelligence, confidence, trust and being utterly composed under the spotlight. ER doctors are trained to deliver under pressure and Dr. Bernard nailed it on the first shot.
